There are several loan programs to assist with educational expenses. The federal government offers low interest rate student and parent loans. They also offer special benefits such as fixed interest rates, subsidized interest, and income-based repayment plans. The Federal Direct Subsidized Loan is an undergraduate need based loan. The interest begins to accrue after graduation or if enrollment is dropped below half-time. The Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan is an undergraduate or graduate non-need-based loan. The interest begins accruing after the 1st disbursement is received.
The Federal Direct Parent/Graduate PLUS Loan is a credit-based loan. The requirements are different for each program.
贷款 are also offered through private alternative loan lenders. These are credit-based loans. The lender will set terms and conditions based on the credit score and other key factors.
